A Place Through Time
Across centuries of change, The Four Bells has remained a constant — a place where stories are shared, milestones are celebrated, and friendships are formed. From the era of horse-drawn carriages կանգած outside its doors to the rhythm of modern village life, the inn has evolved while holding onto its welcoming spirit. Generations of families have passed through its rooms, gathering by the fire, raising a glass, and enjoying simple, honest hospitality. Its role as a social hub has never faded, continuing to bring together locals and visitors alike in an atmosphere that feels both familiar and special.
A Rich Village Heritage
Steeped in history, The Four Bells Inn has stood at the heart of Woodborough for generations, woven into the fabric of village life. Records trace the original inn back to the 18th century, when it offered rest and refreshment to weary travellers journeying through the Nottinghamshire countryside, as well as serving as a bustling meeting place for local villagers. Then known as the Eight Bells, the pub echoed with conversation, trade, and community spirit. In the mid-1800s, it took on the name The Four Bells, marking a new chapter in its story, before being rebuilt in 1927 by the Home Brewery Company. This redevelopment gave the inn much of the architectural character it still proudly displays today — a blend of traditional craftsmanship and enduring charm.
A New Chapter
Today, The Four Bells Inn enters an exciting new era under the care of husband-and-wife team Charlie and Jake White, who took over in March 2024. With a deep respect for the building’s heritage, they have thoughtfully refreshed the space, enhancing its character while introducing a fresh, contemporary feel.
Since opening, their approach has already earned widespread recognition. The inn was named Best Country Pub 2025 in Nottinghamshire by Notts Live and has been shortlisted for the prestigious National Pub Awards in both 2025 and 2026 — achievements that reflect not only their vision, but the dedication, passion, and hard work of the entire team behind the scenes and on the floor.
Together, they have created something special: a place where every detail matters, from the kitchen to the bar to the welcome at the door. Their vision centres on celebrating seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, alongside carefully selected wines and ales, with dishes that balance comfort and creativity. More than just a place to eat and drink, The Four Bells is an environment where guests feel truly at home — relaxed, well looked after, and always eager to return. In blending tradition with a modern touch, the team is ensuring the inn continues to thrive as a cherished village destination for years to come.
